It doesn't glitch out, give you annoying popups and fails to find routes as much. Google maps is always better than Waze in rural areas. Some states can bust you for having an improperly mounted electronic device. Scroll through your route on the app beforehand so it will be saved in the cache if you lose network connectivity. USB Charger with 2+ ports is nice to have.

Air vent mounts work but they do block the cool airflow on those hot summer days. Mount your phone in a good, well thought out place. Typing while driving is a pain in the ass and dangerous. That way you only have to press one button to re-launch the app when it crashes (which it does for me all the god damn time) If your mobile device has a dedicated button for launching apps or perform tasks, set it to launch Waze.

Of course, if you're going somewhere in southeast WV, then you'd want to turn way before Morgantown. It wouldn't take much traffic for Waze to pick one over the other at the time you're driving it. The first leg will probably just stay on 78, but the second leg has a couple different routing options, with only about a 2 minute difference between them. Using that as a basis, with the possible routings I see, I think I'd route from NYC to Harrisburg, and then just before Harrisburg, I'd route to Morgantown.

In both cases, you often get more interesting scenery, as a bonus. Similarly, traffic sometimes builds up around the I-95 / I-26 junction, and hopping off of 95 at Yemassee SC and running due north to Orangeburg cuts off the corner and is often faster. If I take it in smaller bites, Waze will sometimes have me hop off 95 onto US-17 for sections between Jacksonville and Savannah to avoid slowdowns.

The longer the routing, the more weight it seems to give to continuity of pathing.ДЇor example, traveling from central Florida to Virginia, it'll plow me straight up I-95 to I-26 to Columbia if I route the whole way, regardless of traffic. In my experience that's about the longest you can route and expect it to successfully route you around traffic issues. I recommend intervals of about 200 miles with Waze.
